Common Core - ACCRS
Alabama developed its own standards called the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards (ACCRS) based on the common core standards. The Alabama State PTA adoped a resolution in support of the Alabama College and Career Ready Standards at the 2013 PTA State Convention (read here).
Below are resources to help explain the standards. Use these resources with your PTAs.
Common Core
The Common Core State Standards (CCSSI) is a joint effort led by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers to develop a common core of K-12 standards in English language arts and Mathematics.
The goal of the initiative is to develop internationally-benchmarked standards that ensure all students are held to consistent expectations that will prepare them for college and career.
